Job Description

The hourly VCUL Collections Care Technician assists the Collections Care Librarian & Conservator and the Lead Collections Care Technician in a variety of tasks to ensure that VCUL collection materials are accessible in a usable condition. The successful candidate will : Repair and document treatments on materials from VCU Libraries' circulating collections: mending paper, rebinding books, re-sewing, spine repairs, making enclosures to house materials, and assisting with other collections care tasks in a variety of formats. Assist with regular workspace maintenance and upkeep. Assist with additional projects as needed.
Required :
Demonstrated manual dexterity and coordination. Ability to discern differences in weight, texture, and quality of materials. Ability to master precise measuring and cutting. Ability to work independently and maintain a record of work. Demonstrated problem solving capability and organizational skills. Ability to collaborate and share space in a workshop environment. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Preferred:
Knowledge of book structure, previous experience working in a library. Experience in repairing books, crafts, sewing, or the arts. Experience using databases, e.g. Alma. This position is intended to start May 11, 2026 and be terminated at the end of day August 7th . Up to 29 hours per week between 9-4:30 M-F at the rate of $15.25 per hour
