Cornell University's Department of Performing and Media Arts is seeking one or two Visiting Lecturers to teach a combined total of two courses in our Cornell in Los Angeles (CLA) Study Away semester for the Spring 2027 semester (January 1 - May 31, 2027, with in-person classes beginning January 25 and ending May 10). This position requires in-person teaching in the city of Los Angeles, with classes on a Monday-Wednesday schedule. Qualified applicants may apply to teach both or either of the courses listed below. The Cornell in Los Angeles program is a new study away program that will welcome its inaugural cohort in Spring 2027. Attracting a diverse range of students from a range of backgrounds, CLA is designed to inspire and empower students by offering unique opportunities to engage with industry professionals, participate in hands-on learning, and immerse themselves in the vibrant cultural landscape of Los Angeles. This position will deliver specialized instruction leveraging the local Los Angeles entertainment and media landscape, and develop and update syllabi and materials in consultation with the Faculty Director.

PMA 3482

Media Industries (4 credits): This course places the global film and television industry within the economic and historical context of its production, circulation, and consumption. Students will explore how the aesthetic systems at work in these industries should not be separated from their underlying commercial ambitions. With a balance of academic scholarship, industrial press, and special guests, students will learn about the workings of Hollywood revealing the delicate balance between industry and art, between entertainment and commercial enterprise, between "show" and "business."

PMA 3483

Performing and Media Arts in Los Angeles (4 credits): This course explores the rich performing and media arts history and practices in Los Angeles, California. Students explore how the city's cultural institutions have been shaped by the city's history and evolving identity. Engaged in a multidisciplinary conversation about live and mediated art practices, this course considers how Los Angeles functions as an epicenter for global performing and media industries. The successful applicant will have a Masters (PhD preferred) in a related field and proven experience as an instructor. Pay:

$11,040-12,130 per course. Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills. Review begins Sept 1 and will continue until position is filled.
