JOB GOAL
Kirkwood is seeking an Adjunct, Applied Low Brass (tuba, trombone, euphonium) instructor to join the growing music area, beginning Fall 2026, on the Cedar Rapids Main Campus.
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effective teaching of private music lessons, and working collaboratively with students and ensembles. Teaching responsibilities include teaching applied low brass to music program and transfer students, and facilitating sophomore recitals for students in collaboration with the director of instrumental music. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage collaboratively with both faculty and students in recital and performance preparation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively and show evidence of successful studio teaching, preferable at the post-secondary level. This position consists of a varied schedule dependent upon enrollment during the academic year. Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions scheduled intermittently based on institutional need. Adjuncts are not guaranteed work in any semester and are notified of course assignments prior to each term as courses become available.
COMPENSATION
Applied instructors are compensated $668 per 2 credit lesson (1 hour a week) and $334 per 1 credit lesson (half hour a week) per student.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach applied lessons each week Assist in preparing students for juries and recitals through collaboration. Coordinate with students to establish a regular meeting schedule for the semester. Maintain current course syllabi and provide it to all students taught. Effectively organize and teach assigned music lessons in accordance with established syllabi. Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.

Demonstrate excellence of technique and professionalism as a musician. Communicate clearly expectations for collaboration with other applied music instructors, and students. Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve. Be able to organize and present music concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly. Manage the lesson studio in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with the department and college objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices. Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions. Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a studio setting. Frequent (34-66%) repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying and exerting up to 10 pounds. Also, frequent (34-66%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping. Constant (67-100%) talking, hearing and viewing various types of close work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Music (MM) degree in low brass performance

Higher Education teaching experience Demonstrated collaborative experience in a variety of musical genres\ EEO/AA
