A Music Professor teaches students beyond the high school level, including undergraduate and graduate students. Teaches music related subject areas. Conducts research and supervises student research. Teaches at a public or private college, in a two year or four year degree program.
The Music Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for anticipated part-time, temporary faculty position(s) for the Fall 2026 semester. The department seeks candidates whose teaching, research, and/or service have prepared them to serve all IUP students.

- Ear Training I Introduces skills musicians need to discern, recall, translate, and reproduce musical events. Explores treble and bass clef, rhythm in common meters, diatonic melody, and chord quality. Involves basic improvisation and keyboard harmony.
MUHI 102
- Music & Literature Survey Introduces students to a broad spectrum of music and literature of various genres through a careful analysis of poetry, fiction, and drama, both in the original format and in a variety of musical settings. Includes music and literature of various time periods, nationalities, and minorities, including works by women and works from non-western musical and literary traditions. Designed for music majors and others who have a substantial knowledge of music, this course fulfills both the liberal studies fine arts and humanities literature requirements for music majors. Responsibilities Other duties involve participating in departmental committees and advising students. The successful candidate may be asked to work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education asynchronously and/or synchronously through zoom technology.
Required:
DMA in Orchestral Conducting, or master's degree in conducting with relevant experience Experience teaching in college setting. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Faculty members are expected to: Teach courses assigned by the department chair in accordance with departmental, college, and university scheduling requirements. Conduct classes for the required contact hours each academic term and administer final examinations or equivalent assessments as required. Present course content effectively using instructional methods appropriate to the discipline and learning objectives. Evaluate student performance accurately, fairly, and in a timely manner. Perform activities associated with laboratory instruction, fieldwork, studio courses, clinical assignments, or other experiential learning environments, when applicable. Maintain expertise in the discipline through ongoing scholarly, research, creative, and/or professional activities. Engage in service activities that support the department, college, university, profession, and community, as appropriate. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders in both written and oral formats. Adhere to university policies, academic standards, and professional expectations.
