Art and Technology Instructor YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago - 3.5 Chicago, IL Job Details Part-time $18.50 - $19.00 an hour 7 hours ago Qualifications Student supervision Program design Youth programs teaching experience Culturally responsive teaching (DEI initiatives) Parent collaboration Team management Child safety supervision Educational program evaluation Parent communication in school administration Educational program planning Activity planning for children Working with youth Youth program management Full Job Description The Art and Technology Instructor will conduct science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) specialty program activities and instruction for ages 5-12. The Art and Technology Instructor will supervise and instruct youth STEAM programs at various CPS schools and YMCA Hubs. Job Responsibilites Plans and implements STEAM programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate Teaches the fundamentals of specialty program areas by understanding the age and skill level of program participants Supervises a group of youth to ensure their health, safety, and a positive experience for each participant Communicates with and maintains a positive relationship with parents/guardians Ensures all equipment is accounted for and maintained Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures Supports the mission and values of the YMCA and the STEAM portfolio Job Requirements Prior experience in STEAM education preferred Minimum of 16 years of age or older Ability to travel to different CPS schools and
YMCA Hubs Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, or a related field.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth in an educational or recreational setting. Proven track record of developing and implementing youth programs that foster growth and development. Experience in a leadership role, managing teams or volunteers in a youth-focused environment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with youth, parents, and colleagues. Demonstrated ability to create a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Proficiency in program planning and evaluation to ensure high-quality delivery of youth enrichment activities. Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
