We believe creativity fuels enterprise and use art based classes to teach a range of art, technical, life, and career skills to low-income and underserved youth from across the City. All of our programs are free. Since our launch, we've grown to serve over 200 youth annually. The quality of our programming is reflected in our 92% completion rate. Our youth arts classes fall into three categories: technical art (3-D animation, AR/VR, digital game design); media arts (podcasting, videography, photography); and applied arts (fashion, ceramics). Our building is located on the Near West Side. It is a beautiful, light-filled space with high quality equipment and classrooms and labs specifically designed to support creativity. Position Summary CHICAT has opportunities for Part-Time Afterschool Art Instructors to lead hands-on visual arts instruction for our youth participants. You'll design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that build technical skill, creative confidence, and employability skills, all while fostering a supportive, student-centered environment. Specific positions we week to fill are for fashion design, ceramics, photography/videography, and podcasting. However, we are open to receiving resumes and proposals from artists in other disciplines Key Responsibilities Plan and teach high school afterschool art sessions aligned to the National Core Arts Standards Build curriculum and lesson plans for your course [New courses that we are hiring for will include — Ceramics; Art in Action (drawing/painting); Media Arts (Podcasting); Fashion Textile Design; Photography & Videography] Use pre- and post-assessments to track student growth Maintain a safe, organized, well-stocked studio/classroom Foster student voice and leadership, consistent with CHICAT's Youth Advisory Council model Communicate regularly with CHICAT program staff on student progress and attendance Model professionalism and employability skills for students, reinforcing that creative training builds the problem-solving skills needed across any career path — not just artistic ones Qualifications BFA, MFA, or equivalent experience in a visual arts discipline Demonstrated excellence in your art discipline Experience teaching or mentoring low-income and underserved youth (classroom, studio, or community-based setting preferred) Authentic connection to and understanding of the challenges faced bv the youth CHICAT serves Passion for arts education as a pathway to opportunity for underserved youth Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills, including a sense of humor Organized and able to comply with key administrative requirements like daily attendance Ability to curate and support culminating student gallery event (Winterfest) on Dec 10. Reliable transportation to our Near West Side location Must pass background check and be authorized to work in the US Schedule & Compensation Term position Start Date September 15, 2026 through December 10, 2026. Approximately 20 hours per week including in person teaching Tuesday -3-7pm plus approximately 4 remote hours per week for planning, meetings/administrative work Classes begin September 28.
