• $26.25-$33 per hour, commensurate with experiencePaid prep, setup, and cleanup time The Brookline Arts Center is hiring a part-time art teacher for our youngest studio artists, ages 5-7, starting with our Winter 2027 session, with opportunities to continue into spring, summer, and beyond. In this role, you'll lead hands-on art classes where children build confidence, imagination, and early art skills, along with the social skills that come from making things together. You'll create a studio that is joyful, safe, and welcoming to every child, balancing open-ended creativity with the structure that young kids need to thrive. You'll also be able to propose new classes of your own in future sessions.

THE DETAILS
Winter 2027 session: January 4 - March 25, 2027
Schedule:
Weekday afternoons, 3:30-5:30, about 1-2 days a week. Extra classes, private lessons, weekend teaching, and birthday parties are available if you're interested.
Class size:
Typically 7-15 children, with a teaching assistant for classes over 10
Location:
On-site at the Brookline Arts Center, near the MBTA Green Line C branch (St. Mary's Street) and D branch (Fenway)
Pay:
$26.25-$33 per hour, commensurate with experience, including paid prep, setup, and cleanup time
ABOUT THE BAC
The Brookline Arts Center is a neighborhood art studio in an old firehouse on Monmouth Street. It began in 1964 in the Brookline home of Barnett and Marilyn Berliner, and it's still run cooperatively, with deep roots in the community. We believe every child deserves a place to make things with their own hands, and that art should be open to everyone. Children here learn painting, drawing, clay, printmaking, fibers, jewelry and sculpture.
Qualifications:
Required Experience teaching groups of children ages 5-7 and developing your own lessons for them Strong classroom management, with concrete strategies for keeping young children engaged, safe, and on task in a studio An understanding of how children this age develop socially, emotionally, and physically, including fine and gross motor skills, and how that shapes the materials and techniques you choose Knowledge of age-appropriate, non-toxic art materials, plus experience prepping, organizing, and restocking supplies and keeping a studio safe and tidy Familiarity with general safety practices and basic first aid Clear, warm communication with children, families, and colleagues, and comfort working both independently and as part of a team Preferred Experience adapting lessons for a range of abilities and learning styles Experience teaching at an arts center, school, or community organization Current first aid/CPR certification
