SNAP Art Classroom Assistant Job Position SNAP was founded in 1981 by Lexingtonians Marilyn Abel and Judy Goldner, who believed that the arts were an important and effective means for integrating people with disabilities into the community. An important part of our mission, and something that sets SNAP apart from other organizations, is our inclusion of all people with developmental or intellectual disabilities, either from birth or as the result of a traumatic brain injury. SNAP envisions a world where everyone is seen and valued. Special Needs Arts Programs Inc. (SNAP), is seeking a Classroom Assistant to provide support in our Crafts and Ceramics classes for individuals with special needs.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting the Art Instructor in class preparation, setup and cleanup Arrival time is thirty minutes before class start time and leave time is thirty minutes after class end time to allow enough time to clean up and organize. Provide instruction, support and encouragement to participants Direct student volunteers as needed
Qualifications:
Candidates should have interest in or experience with: Doing art projects, working with clay, assembling crafts, working with a variety of different art and craft materials Experience in an art classroom, either in a volunteer or paid capacity Working with adults with disabilities, either in a volunteer or paid capacity Having patience and compassion, being positive, friendly, and caring are very important Able to take direction from the Art Instructor and follow-through on tasks Candidates should be flexible and able to work as part of a team. The position is for one 4 week fall Crafts session, a 6 week winter Ceramics session, and a 4 week summer Crafts session. Program will take place at The Lexington Community Center.
