Job Description

Muskegon Catholic Central in Muskegon is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated secondary art educator to join a mission-driven community committed to the success and formation of every student. Rooted in our Catholic identity, Muskegon Catholic Central integrates faith and learning while emphasizing the values of Catholic Social Teaching, including respect for the dignity of every person, service to others, and a commitment to community.

We are seeking an educator who believes that art is more than the creation of a finished product—it is a way of seeing, thinking, questioning, and understanding the world. The ideal candidate will bring a vision for studio art and individual creativity, while helping students develop artistic skills, confidence, and the habits of a creative mind.

Faculty at Muskegon Catholic Central are encouraged to exercise strong teacher agency, designing engaging learning experiences that inspire curiosity, encourage experimentation, and help students discover their God-given gifts and creative potential.

Position Overview

The Secondary Art Teacher will lead students through meaningful experiences in visual art, studio practice, and creative expression. The ideal candidate will foster a classroom where students are encouraged to create, explore, take creative risks, solve problems, and develop their own artistic voice.

Courses may include areas such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, design, photography, digital art, art history, and advanced studio art.

We are particularly interested in an educator who can build a strong studio art program that balances foundational skills and techniques with individual expression and creative exploration.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

A valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Art certification preferred.

A strong background in studio art and visual arts education.

Experience teaching a variety of artistic media and techniques.

The ability to develop foundational skills while encouraging individual creativity and artistic expression.

A passion for helping students grow as artists, thinkers, and creators.

Key Responsibilities

Design engaging studio-based learning experiences that develop students' technical skills and creative voice.

Foster a classroom culture that encourages experimentation, reflection, and artistic growth.

Teach foundational principles of art and design while supporting individual expression.

Help students observe, create, critique, and communicate through visual art.

Provide opportunities for students to exhibit and celebrate their work.

Collaborate with colleagues and support the school's mission of developing the whole person—spirit, mind, and body.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking more than someone who can teach students how to make art. We are looking for an artist and educator who inspires students to see differently—someone who believes creativity can be developed, values process as much as product, and recognizes that every student has God-given gifts worth discovering and developing.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume and/or portfolio, and references directly to:
