ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The Odyssey Preparatory Academy - Family of Schools, is a growing west-valley K-12 charter school, seeking teachers. We are a college prep, IB World School, whose focus is holistic teaching to a student body. The Odyssey Preparatory Academy aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring scholars who work to create a better and more peaceful community through intercultural awareness, understanding, and respect.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates a positive & engaging classroom environment of mutual respect that supports school-wide behavior expectations. Communicates with parents and guardians consistently and positively. Utilizes a range of research-based classroom and instructional best practices that support scholar independence, collaboration, & choice. Provides scholars specific, actionable feedback that promotes mastery of self and grade-level standards. Asks questions that promote critical thinking, activate prior knowledge & experiences, and support scholars with reaching the daily content objective. Provides scholars with warranted & appropriate accommodations. Utilizes technology & media to appropriately build scholars' content knowledge & enhance learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behavior that is conscientious, responsible, and aligned to Odyssey's Vision, Mission, & Core Values. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with all Odyssey stakeholders. Attends and participates in staff meetings, professional learning, and extra-curricular/school related activities. Participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities & works with school administrators to identify relevant professional learning opportunities. Demonstrates mastery of related content knowledge, instructional practices, and materials for course(s) taught. Utilizes lesson plans that are aligned to current state and district standards, adopted curricular materials, and learning objectives that support scholars with building grade-level content knowledge and skills. Engages scholars with a variety of formative and summative assessments and uses data to prepare for upcoming lessons. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the site administrator
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledgeable of Odyssey, school, and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of research-based teaching strategies and methods. Interpersonal communication skills that establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with Odyssey. Operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of software applications and equipment.
SCHEDULE
Monday - Friday• Elementary Schools - 7:30-4:00 OI Jr. High & High School - 7:40-3:49 Teacher schedules include two daily prep periods •Fridays are reserved for professional learning, lesson preparation, and grade-level/content collaboration as directed by the site level and district level administrators. Fridays preceding holidays & school breaks are days off and free from professional obligations (i.e. no professional learning, lesson prep, etc.).
