Foreign Language Teacher (Independent Contractor, 1099) Emerge Berkeley Christian Academy Berkeley, CA Job Details Contract $25 - $30 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications French Mandarin Spanish Teaching foreign languages Performing background checks Full Job Description Overview Emerge Berkeley Christian Academy is engaging an independent contractor to provide language and cultural instruction to K-6 students across multiple grade levels, building on prior years of language instruction. The contractor develops their own curriculum and instructional methods, integrating them with EBCA's broader academic program and Christ-centered values. Scope of Work Design and deliver interactive, age-appropriate language lessons, integrating instruction with EBCA's overall academic program and adapting to each grade's prior language experience. Build vocabulary, conversation, and reading/writing skills as students advance. Promote understanding of global cultures and God's diverse creation. Coordinate scheduling with classroom teachers as needed for continuity. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Bachelor's degree in Language, Education, or related field (preferred). Minimum 1 year of experience teaching or tutoring in the target language. Fluency or native proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin. Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and provide proof of legal work authorization. Must complete TB clearance prior to starting. Must complete mandated reporter training, as required for anyone with direct contact with students. Faith-Based Requirements Agreement with EBCA's Statement of Faith. Participation in a Christian church community. Willingness to support the mission and values of a Christian school environment. Contractor Terms This is an independent contractor (1099) engagement. The contractor is responsible for their own tax withholding and does not receive employee benefits. The contractor designs their own curriculum and retains control over instructional methods.
