The teacher implements their assigned curriculum in accordance with LFSD guidelines, applies developmentally appropriate and research-based practices, collaborates closely with colleagues and families, and contributes to a positive school culture. The French teacher must be a native French speaker or have a native level mastery of the language in all its forms. Instruction & Curriculum Implementation The K-8 Teacher is responsible for: Delivering clear explanations and maintaining high student engagement. Demonstrating strong knowledge of required curriculum areas, including vocabulary development ("cahier de vocabulaire" starting in PS), the Parcours éducatifs , and social-skills instruction. Speaking French - or the target language - with students most of the time. Implementing all aspects of the French national curriculum and/or LFSD's internal curricula in alignment with the "Projet d'établissement". Applying innovative, research-based, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices. Using technology meaningfully according to the Parent Handbook. Preparing daily/weekly written lesson plans ("cahier journal") aligned with curriculum objectives. Differentiating instruction to support students with diverse needs. Completing PPRE/IP documentation when required. Evaluating student progress using the semester based Report cards and providing evidence of learning and growth throughout the year. Leading Parent-Teacher Conferences and provide required documentation aligned the with school assessment standards (Report Cards, Je Valide) Maintaining accurate attendance records, lesson plans, and report cards. Planning and implementing at least one field trip or organizing an on-campus guest. Actively participating and collaborating during co-teaching sessions. Sharing classroom activities with families at least once a month by email or other communication tools (Google Photo…). Attending weekly meetings, collaboration time, and class councils. Ensure clear and consistent communication and collaboration with all teachers supporting their class in their role as Homeroom teacher. Classroom Management & Student Well-Being The K-8 Teacher must: Maintain a safe, orderly, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Practice weekly activities aligned with our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to support students' well-being and interpersonal skills. Use positive behavior guidance strategies, including conflict-resolution practices and emotion-management tools. Encourage, support, and nurture students consistently, fostering trust and confidence. Embrace and celebrate diversity within the classroom and the LFSD community. Model emotional regulation, professionalism, and resilience with students and colleagues. Complete accident or incident reports promptly and accurately when required, and complete the "Student tracking" document for behavior.
Professional Expectations & Responsibilities The Teacher:
Is punctual and reliable for all duties. Follows absence protocols and maintains a reasonable number of unprotected absences. Complies with all Employee Handbook policies (absence process, punctuality, technology use, dress code, etc.). Maintains appropriate role boundaries. Demonstrates politeness, tact, patience, courtesy, and solution-oriented communication. Uses appropriate email etiquette (greetings, sign-offs, clear subject lines, no ALL CAPS, acknowledgments). Responds to emails and surveys within 48 business hours and follows up on instructions provided by email. Displays mandatory classroom posters (progression, schedule, school calendar, directory, absence protocol, accident protocol, sick/illness policy, fire-drill instructions). Uses professional preparation time effectively. Completes all non-teaching tasks (yearbook photos, communications, documentation). Understands and agrees to contract section 2.c regarding reassignment during non-teaching time (student support, substituting, special projects). Attends any required meetings or presentations (ie.: Kinder Presentation, Middle school Presentation…) When working in preschool: Abides by all Social Services regulations. Collaboration & School Culture The K-8 Teacher is expected to: Collaborate regularly and effectively with grade-level colleagues. Demonstrate honesty, professionalism, and cooperation with colleagues, families, and administration. Build and maintain effective working relationships and communicate clearly in speech and writing. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and families. Address concerns directly with the person involved, avoiding assumptions, gossip, or comparisons. Follow the conflict resolution process and line of communication. Take ownership of tasks and acknowledge missed responsibilities. Maintain professionalism and composure in situations involving disagreement or stress. Respond to challenges with calm, constructive communication and seek solutions. Fulfill all assigned responsibilities outside of classroom instruction. Family Communication & Professional Conduct The Teacher will: Serve as the primary communicator for curriculum, schedules, and academic updates. Be available and proactive to meet with families regarding their child as needed. Maintain confidentiality according to legal and licensing standards. Student Support & Supervision The Teacher must: Maintain active supervision (visual, auditory, proximity) at all times. Ensure children are always within sight and never left unattended. Follow the "Accident-Incident"protocol Implement positive guidance strategies consistent with licensing requirements and school policy. Maintain all required student files, including emergency forms, allergy information, and medical plans. Education & Licensing Requirements Preferred education: Master MEEF from France Undergraduate degree in education Required Certifications Pediatric CPR/First Aid Mandated Reporter Training (AB 1207) Health Requirements All required immunizations (MMR, TDAP, Influenza or signed waiver). Completion of all onboarding and LIC personnel forms.
