Biweekly This language school is seeking an experienced, energetic Mandarin Chinese teacher to lead foundational Saturday Mandarin instruction for children approximately ages 3-10. Our students are beginners or emerging Mandarin learners. Some may have limited prior exposure to the language, but students are not expected to be fluent. We need a teacher who understands how to introduce Mandarin effectively to young learners and build a strong foundation in listening, comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, and age-appropriate literacy skills. This is not a babysitting or general after-school position . We are looking for a genuine educator who can actively teach, manage a classroom, engage young learners, and produce measurable student growth on Saturdays 10am-1pm. The successful candidate may be considered for longer working hours and sponsorship if successful with the position. What We Are Looking For The successful candidate should be able to: Teach Mandarin Chinese to young children in an energetic, engaging, and developmentally appropriate manner. Maximize the use of Mandarin during class while using visuals, gestures, modeling, repetition, songs, movement, storytelling, games, conversation, and hands-on activities to make meaning understandable to beginners. Build foundational listening comprehension, vocabulary, speaking, pronunciation and tones, conversational ability, and age-appropriate reading/writing skills. Encourage students to actually use Mandarin , rather than simply repeat or memorize isolated words. Differentiate instruction for students of different ages and levels. Establish effective routines and maintain positive but firm classroom management. Meet students at their current language level while steadily moving them toward measurable goals. Prepare and submit a concise weekly lesson plan identifying objectives, vocabulary/language targets, activities, materials, and skills to be covered that Saturday. Work with the school's existing curriculum and materials while incorporating effective personal curriculum resources, techniques, games, activities, and instructional methods. Observe student progress and communicate useful feedback regarding participation, strengths, challenges, and language development. Work independently, demonstrate initiative, and arrive prepared to teach.
Qualifications Required:
Strong Mandarin Chinese proficiency; native or near-native proficiency is highly desirable. Previous teaching experience. Experience working with children and demonstrated ability to engage and manage a group of young learners. Dependability and excellent punctuality. Reliable transportation. Authorization to work in the United States. Ability to successfully complete required background screening for work with children. Availability every scheduled Saturday through December 2026. Applicants with known recurring Saturday conflicts or planned Saturday absences during this period should not apply.
Highly Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or higher. Degree, coursework, or professional background in education, Mandarin/Chinese language instruction, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field. Experience teaching children ages 3-10. Experience teaching Mandarin to children with little or no previous exposure. Experience with immersion, communicative-language teaching, TPR, or other interactive language-learning methods. Teaching Demonstration Final candidates will be asked to complete a brief in-person teaching demonstration so that we can observe instructional ability, classroom presence, Mandarin usage, pronunciation, creativity, and ability to engage young learners. We are particularly interested in teachers who are self-starters—people who can take foundational program goals and turn them into lively, substantive instruction that produces visible student progress over time. Opportunity for Growth This is an ongoing Saturday position , not a short-term seasonal assignment. A successful teacher may have the opportunity to continue with the program long term and potentially assume additional teaching responsibilities as our programs grow. Expanded employment and sponsorship will depend upon teacher performance, reliability, student enrollment, program needs, and demonstrated student progress.
