Many children throughout the world are exposed to a second language from birth. This trend is also increasing in the United States. Our program supports children's development through a nurturing environment that encourages language development, social-emotional growth, independence, and early learning. The One-Year-Old Teacher Assistant works closely with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher supports daily classroom routines, assists with activities and lesson plans, helps meet the individual needs of children, and works as part of the classroom team and the entire Children's Academy faculty. Physical and Safety Requirements Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet, with or without corrective devices; this includes the ability to evacuate the building during emergencies. Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved. Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations. Ability to maintain active supervision of children at all times. Ability to assist with diapering, feeding, nap routines, and other age-appropriate care needs. Educational Qualifications All candidates who wish to be considered for the position of One-Year-Old Teacher Assistant must meet one or more of the following criteria, in addition to any requirements mandated by state and/or local licensing authorities: Previous experience working with infants or toddlers preferred. Ability to work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and classroom team. Spanish and English speaking skills preferred. Must be willing to complete required childcare training and professional development. Must meet all applicable DCF and Children's Academy employment requirements. Teacher Assistant Responsibilities The Teacher Assistant's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Support a Safe, Healthy, and Nurturing Learning Environment Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing classroom. Actively supervise children at all times. Assist with maintaining appropriate classroom ratios. Assist with classroom transitions, routines, and daily schedules. Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom. Clean spills and address classroom cleanliness concerns immediately. Assist with classroom cleaning and sanitizing when children are not present or when appropriate. Ensure classroom materials and equipment are safe and in good condition. Follow all health, safety, emergency, and Children's Academy policies and procedures. Assist during emergency situations and follow established emergency procedures. Support Children's Daily Care and Development Assist with diapering and personal care while maintaining children's dignity and following proper hygiene procedures. Assist with meals and snacks while promoting healthy eating habits. Help children during feeding and encourage age-appropriate independence. Assist with nap/rest routines. Comfort and reassure children when needed. Support children's social-emotional development through positive reinforcement and age-appropriate guidance. Help children develop self-help skills and independence. Recognize and respond appropriately to each child's individual needs. Support Classroom Learning and Activities Assist the Lead Teacher with implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities. Participate in hands-on learning experiences appropriate for one-year-old children. Help prepare classroom materials and activities. Encourage language, sensory, motor, social-emotional, and cognitive development. Engage children through talking, singing, reading, movement, and play. Assist with maintaining an appropriate classroom environment based on the children's developmental needs. Help implement the classroom schedule and daily routines. Support activities that encourage children's curiosity, exploration, and creativity. Establish Positive Family Relationships Communicate with families in a professional and welcoming manner. Support the Lead Teacher in creating positive relationships with families. Share appropriate classroom information with the Lead Teacher and administration. Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families. Assist with daily classroom communication and updates as directed by the Lead Teacher. Welcome families and help create a positive experience during drop-off and pick-up. Support Classroom Documentation and Assessment Assist the Lead Teacher with maintaining classroom records and documentation. Help collect and organize materials for children's portfolios. Assist with child observations as directed by the Lead Teacher. Support the Lead Teacher with assessment activities and documentation. Assist with maintaining the classroom Parent Board. Help ensure required classroom paperwork and materials are organized and up to date. Teamwork and Professional Responsibilities Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other classroom staff. Communicate openly and professionally with the Lead Teacher and administration. Follow the Lead Teacher's classroom plans and directions. Contribute positively to the classroom team. Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development as required. Complete required DCF training and Children's Academy professional development. Follow Children's Academy policies, procedures, and NAC Standards. Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude. Serve as a positive role model for children, families, and coworkers.
