The University of Hawai'i at Manoa offers a BA in Linguistics with an optional Concentration in ASL as well as MA and PhD degree programs in Linguistics. Duties and Responsibilities Teach 24 credits per academic year in American Sign Language (ASL) at all undergraduate levels; Develop curriculum and teaching materials toward a full four-year ASL program; Advise students; Coordinate curricula, and ensure articulation between levels and between UH campuses; Oversee placement exams, course equivalency evaluations, back credits and language waiver petitions; Contribute service at the department, college, university, and community levels. Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications Either:

(a) M.A. degree in American Sign Language, Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related field; or (b) B.A. degree in American Sign Language, Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies, Sign Linguistics or a related field with three years of full or part-time teaching ASL at the college or university level; Native or near-native proficiency in ASL; Demonstrated involvement in the Deaf community. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff, and administration. Desirable Qualifications 5 years or more of experience teaching ASL at the university level; Experience with curriculum development; ASLTA certification; Familiarity with ASL-English interpreter training requirements.
