About St. George International School St. George International School (SGIS) is a growing independent language immersion school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our mission is to empower young minds through language, culture, and global citizenship.

SGIS offers a unique multilingual learning environment where students develop proficiency in multiple languages while building strong academic foundations and cross-cultural understanding. We currently serve students from Preschool through Middle School and are committed to creating engaging, immersive learning experiences that foster curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Position Summary SGIS is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Mandarin Chinese Teacher to join our team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will inspire students through immersive language instruction while helping cultivate an appreciation for Chinese culture, traditions, and global perspectives.

This position may include instruction across multiple age groups, from Preschool through Middle School, depending on candidate experience and availability. Responsibilities Deliver engaging Mandarin Chinese instruction using age-appropriate immersion techniques Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with student proficiency levels Foster listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Mandarin Chinese Incorporate Chinese culture, traditions, holidays, music, literature, and customs into instruction Create a positive, inclusive, and interactive classroom environment Assess student progress and provide feedback to families and school leadership Collaborate with school staff to support interdisciplinary and cultural learning opportunities Participate in school events, performances, and cultural celebrations as appropriate Maintain classroom materials and instructional resources Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) to organize lesson plans, track student progress, and facilitate online learning components. Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities or special education requirements, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment. Incorporate learning technology tools to enhance engagement and support literacy education, math integration, and language acquisition. Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management techniques, creating a respectful and productive learning space. Prepare students for standardized testing by developing practice exercises and assessment strategies aligned with curriculum standards. Qualifications Required Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English Native or near-native Mandarin proficiency Experience teaching or working with children Strong communication and classroom management skills Passion for language learning and cultural education Ability to work collaboratively within a small-school environment Proven classroom experience teaching Mandarin Chinese or similar language instruction at the elementary or secondary level. Strong knowledge of childhood development principles and effective classroom management techniques. Experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, and integrating learning technology tools into instruction. Familiarity with LMS platforms and digital resources for language education. Ability to work effectively with children of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities or special educational needs. Excellent communication skills to engage students, collaborate with colleagues, and communicate progress clearly to parents or guardians. Preferred Prior experience in private or Montessori school settings is a plus Teaching certification or degree in Education, Chinese Language, Linguistics, or a related field Experience teaching language immersion students Experience teaching multiple age groups, including early childhood and elementary students Familiarity with project-based or inquiry-based learning approaches What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, patient, and excited about helping students develop real-world language skills. Compensation Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
