Immediately Job Description Somerset County Public Schools is recruiting ESOL Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate is responsible for assisting students in obtaining English Language Proficiency resulting in academic success. You will implement instruction consistent with the goals and mission of Somerset County Public Schools, assisting students in making cultural and linguistic transitions by enhancing their knowledge of social, academic, and cultural practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Excellence:
Provide rigorous Language Acquisition instruction to Multilingual Learners (MLs) aligned with Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and WIDA English Language Development Standards.
Screening & Placement:
Screen potential ML students for program placement and implement all procedures prescribed by MSDE and SCPS.
Data-Driven Planning:
Analyze data to target instruction, differentiate learning, and inform school leadership teams on effective teaching practices.
Compliance & Documentation:
Maintain all required documentation for every ML student, including recommendations for accommodations, adaptations, and special resources for formal assessments.
Consultation & Advocacy:
Serve as a language specialist and liaison between families and the school. Monitor ML progress across all academic schedules and promote participation in extracurricular programs, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education referrals.
Staff Leadership:
Provide ongoing professional development for staff on language acquisition strategies and the latest research in teaching MLs.
Supervision:
Coordinate the work and schedules of assigned ML paraprofessionals and/or tutors.
Qualifications:
Certification:
Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certificate with an ESOL (PreK-12) endorsement.
Knowledge:
High knowledge base of the latest research, laws, and effective practices in the field of TESOL.
Relationship Building:
Ability to maintain positive, nurturing, and collaborative relationships with students, staff, and the community.
