We offer a wide range of well-structured courses for adult students and are currently seeking a talented Spanish instructor who is well-prepared to teach small groups of highly motivated learners.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Plan and impart Spanish classes to groups of 4-9 adult students, as well as one-on-one private lessons. Be available to teach in-person classes at our center in NE Portland and/or online classes via Zoom. Use engaging and dynamic teaching methods to implement the center's curricula and develop additional class activities and exercises as needed. Explain Spanish grammar structures in clear and accessible terms while encouraging students to communicate in Spanish. Implement conversational class activities that require active participation from students, and provide appropriate feedback and correction in an inclusive and supportive environment. Record student attendance and what was covered in each class. There is no testing or grading of students. Attend teacher's meetings when they are held, typically once per 10 week term. Maintain highly responsive communication with administrative and executive staff.
REQUISITE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Native Spanish speaker or non-native speaker who has achieved true fluency in Spanish At least one year (two or more years preferred) previous teaching experience (preferably teaching Spanish) Bachelors degree preferred Ability to work with a variety of learning styles and ability levels within a group Deep and nuanced understanding of Spanish grammar structures Dynamic classroom presence; demonstrated ability to motivate students and engage them in an interactive learning environment Warm and patient manner with students; professional and friendly demeanor Excellent written and spoken communication skills Demonstrated computer proficiency. Well versed in using Zoom and Google suite
POSITION DETAILS
This is a part-time employee position. Compensation is $30.25-$33.25 per hour of instruction plus class preparation time compensated at a different rate, depending on experience. We aim to offer our teachers their ideal schedule and number of hours per week. There are always opportunities to expand teaching hours. We currently have opportunities for teachers seeking to teach in-person or online. Most classes meet Monday-Thursday evenings (5pm-9:30pm approx.) with private lessons occurring in the afternoons.
