PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provide each student with appropriate online learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth via the Blackboard Learning Management system. The online teacher will guide students through a rigorous and comprehensive study of AISD Standards 2.0 in each content area so that each student successfully masters the TEKS in each online course.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for 7-12
ELA Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of assigned curriculum; knowledge of instructional methods Lesson planning and presentations skills Ability to resolve technical issues that may arise Possess online classroom management skills Group interaction skills Demonstrate initiative and be self-motivated Ability to maintain flexibility with students in the online setting Knowledge of Canvas to deliver online instruction Possess technology skills in using word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet browser, video capture, and other software as it pertains to the online classroom Work during non-school hours to administer final exams, telephone students, conduct online synchronous sessions, answer e-mails, and be available to online students as needed Ability to mentor and/or collaborate with other online teachers Possess a home computer with internet access capable of running MS Office Meet and maintain the standards outlined in iNacol's National Standards for Quality Online Teaching found at http://www.inacol.org/research/nationalstandards/NACOL%20Standards%20Quality%20Online%20Teaching.pdf
Work Conditions Tools/Equipment Used :
Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; equipment required to demonstrate and perform tasks related to assigned career and technical education subject area
Posture:
Prolonged standing and sitting, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion:
Prolonged keyboarding and use of computer and peripherals
Lifting:
Regular moderate lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting over 50 lbs.; may lift and move AV equipment, classroom equipment, and other tools and equipment in the classroom
Environment:
May work inside and outside; on slippery or uneven walking services
Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to respond to needs in a timely manner in a high-stress environment; work prolonged or irregular hours Regular Attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Experience in online learning and/or instruction preferred but not required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Implement and maintain the integrity of the online course as written. Assess student learning styles and interests and adjust the course to accommodate individual student needs Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students involved. Cooperate with other members of the AOLS staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements. Stay current with Web 2.0 Tools and other digital trends Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of AISD. Stay in constant contact with students throughout the course to ensure proper engagement. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning where students understand and utilize the rules of netiquette. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Participate in online teacher professional development. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Maintain all reports, records, and other required documents. Attend and participate in AOLS faculty meetings and attend online teacher training and learn the skill set necessary to be a successful online teacher Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
