This is a wonderful opportunity for the right ASL-fluent special education teacher: a part-time position with flexible hours, tutoring for two hours each session, two days a week that pays $100/hour ($200/visit) , with a possible option to add a third day in the future. Looking for an inclusive educator skilled in ASL and adapted learning strategies (DHH or TDHH preferred) as well as visual communication, who can support deaf, hard-of-hearing, or non-verbal students. Prior experience working with Down syndrome is preferred, but not required. The teacher will provide play-based education for pre-reading and pre-math skills. (The parents are willing to collaborate with the right teacher about the curriculum and/or methods that the teacher recommends.) The student can express himself physically, but needs assistance to develop pre-writing, pre-math and pre-reading skills. Applicants should be able to assess and meet the student where he is, then help him improve and feel more confident about his abilities. The right teacher will be patient, creative, kind, play-based, and excited & passionate about teaching. Looking for a teacher who genuinely enjoys children and teaching, and can engage deaf children with special needs and/or learning differences. Qualified candidates should be able to help the student improve early reading and math skills using methods that are engaging, creative and fun. Minimum BA, fluency in ASL, and at least 1 year prior professional teaching experience working with children with special needs is required. State teacher certification and prior experience with Down syndrome is preferred, but not required.
