Job Description

Nebo School District is seeking a Concurrent Enrollment Bridge Instructor [Chinese] in Spanish Fork, Utah.
DUTIES:
(1) Instruct students in a Concurrent Enrollment setting with an emphasis on Chinese language arts and instruction at the high school level (10 - 12th grades) as outlined in the Utah State Board of Education's (USBE) Curriculum, and adopted by the USBE, correlated with other approved learning activities and various teaching methods, including those set forth in the Utah Advanced Language Learning Bridge Program guidelines; (2) Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment; (3) Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration; (4) Collaborate with instructional staff, University instructors, state Bridge directors, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan; (5) Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements; (6) Instruct students in Chinese language and culture, using various teaching methods as set forth in the Chinese Bridge program model for the purpose of aligning instruction with the Utah Core; (7) Manage and monitor student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment, reporting incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, suicide ideation, etc.) and adhering to Education Code and school policies; (8) Participate in a variety of meetings (e.g. faculty meetings, collaboration, IEP and 504 meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions; (9) Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements for Nebo School District and Utah Valley University; (10) Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction; (11) Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution; (12) Adapt classroom work, teaching methods and instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans; (13) Develop and maintain a culturally responsive, student-centered learning environment; (14) Empower students to earn college credit and advance their bilingual skills; (15) Evaluate student competency levels, academic growth and proficiency through the use of developmental testing programs and/or subject-specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student bilingual/biliterate proficiency; (16) Facilitate student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined lesson plan; (17) Meet college/university qualifications to teach concurrent enrollment courses; (18) Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior; (19) Prepare students for success in college-level coursework and foster bilingual, biliterate proficiency; (20) Teach a concurrent enrollment course in partnership with a local college or university; and (21) Perform other related duties, as assigned. [
Note:
This position could be at any of the high schools located in the Nebo School District, all of which are located in multiple cities and towns within Utah County, Utah.]
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Masters degree in Education, the Target Language of Instruction (Chinese), or closely related field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable.
License:
Educator license issued by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE); or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said license.
Other Requirements:
(1) Target Language of Instruction (Chinese) language proficiency is required; (2) Educator endorsement for World Languages in the Target Language of Instruction issued by the USBE; or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said endorsement; (3) Educator endorsement in Dual Language Immersion issued by the USBE; or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said endorsement; (4) If the required endorsements are not yet obtained, has received an OPI or OPIc score of Advanced-Mid or higher for the Target Language of Instruction as administered by the ACTFL; or has received a post-secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language; (5) If the required endorsements are not yet obtained, has received an OPI score of Advanced-Mid or higher for English as administered by the ACTFL; or has received a post-secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where English is the primary language; (6) Cleared a USBE-approved criminal background check; (7) Demonstrable ability to: (a) Promote and facilitate active Chinese language learning environment; (b) Read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and legal documents; (c) Define, troubleshoot, and solve problems involving concrete variables and situations, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; (d) Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; (e) Carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; (f) Plan and implement lessons based on grade level objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students; (g) Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; (h) Effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints to/from parents, community, and students; and (i) Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and (8) Demonstrably good oral and written communication skills.
