A Biology Professor teaches foundational biology ideas, truths, and methods to students through a combination of classroom instruction, lab experience, and assignments at colleges, trade schools or other institutes. May assist or lead in the creation of the biology curriculum to be taught. In addition to instruction, they may assist or lead in research initiatives relating to their field.

Position Summary This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool that provides instruction to our Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Arts & Sciences programs available for assignments during the academic year. The Alvin College TDCJ Program offers a variety of academic and technical correctional education programs to TDCJ offenders. This is an instructional position within a correctional environment teaching an all-male offender population. Offenders are required to meet academic and security requirements for enrollment consideration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach freshman- and sophomore-level Mental Health courses within assigned TDCJ facilities. Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments in accordance with College standards. Deliver engaging instruction using appropriate teaching methods and educational resources. Assess student learning, provide timely feedback, and maintain required academic records and reports. Advise and support students regarding academic progress and connect them with appropriate resources. Utilize available technology to support instruction, communication, recordkeeping, and reporting. Participate in curriculum and program assessment, student retention efforts, institutional meetings, and professional development. Complete required 7 hour TDCJ Pre-Service and annual In-Service security training and comply with applicable facility requirements. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, College administration, and TDCJ personnel. Adhere to College policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Biology Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in theoretical or applied biological sciences or life sciences from a regionally accredited college / university Specific 24XX level courses require the following: Master's degree or higher with 18 graduate semester hours in theoretical or applied biological sciences, biochemistry, life sciences, Doctorate in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or Chiropractic from a regionally accredited college / university Geology Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Geology from a regionally accredited college / university History Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in History or American Civilization (with cross listed courses in History) from a regionally accredited college / university Philosophy Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy from a regionally accredited college / university Specific courses 1304 & 2321 require the following: Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy, Theology, Comparative Religion from a regionally accredited college / university Physics Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Physics or closely related physical science from a regionally accredited college / university Psychology Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology from a regionally accredited college / university Speech Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Speech or Communication, unrelated to mass communications from a regionally accredited college / university
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in field of study from a regionally accredited college/university At least one year of teaching experience at the college level Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system Bilingual English/Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills. Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet. Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system. Candidates must pass a criminal background check by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
