Posting Details Position Details Title Open Rank Lecturer positions, Kelley School of Business (Communication Skills) Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Communication, Professional, and Computer Skills Location Bloomington Position Summary The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington ( IUB ) invites applications for full-time, open-rank Lecturer positions in Communication Skills beginning Fall 2027. These are 10-month, non-tenure-track appointments with an 18-credit-hour annual teaching assignment. Communication Skills faculty teach core undergraduate courses in business writing and business presentations. The curriculum emphasizes audience, purpose, rhetorical situation, and the effective use of written and oral genres in professional contexts. Faculty typically have a primary assignment in either Business Writing or Business Presentations, with the possibility of teaching both. Communication Skills Courses Business Presentations (3 credits) Business Presentations introduces students to oral communication in professional contexts through theory-based skill development. Students learn to analyze audiences, construct and deliver persuasive messages, develop oral arguments, and work effectively in teams. The course includes a team persuasive presentation addressing a real problem for a corporate client. Business Writing (3 credits) Business Writing develops students' ability to produce strategic, ethical, audience-centered professional documents individually and in teams. Students analyze communication situations, make rhetorical choices across business genres, and develop recommendations for authentic professional problems. The course includes a team-based report for a corporate client. The Faculty Role Lecturers have both teaching and service obligations including curriculum development, pedagogical development and service to the Communication, Professional, and Computer Skills ( CPCS ) academic area, the Kelley School, Indiana University, and the broader community. Annual professional development funding is available for activities including conference travel, purchasing books, and research. These positions are based at the IUB campus in Bloomington, Indiana. Faculty members are expected to work on campus to fully engage with the area, school, campus, and community. About Kelley CPCS Communication, Professional, and Computer Skills ( CPCS ) is an integral part of the Kelley undergraduate curriculum. With more than 60 faculty, CPCS brings together instructors from a range of academic and professional backgrounds who teach courses in communication, career and professional development, and computer skills. All Kelley undergraduates complete courses offered by
CPCS . CPCS
faculty develop their own course materials while coordinating with colleagues teaching the same courses, providing both individual responsibility for the classroom and opportunities for curricular collaboration. Basic Qualifications Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or ABD with completion by August 2027), master's degree, or other postgraduate degree in Communication, Business, Journalism, Law, English, Education, Human Resources, Public Relations, Humanities, or a related field. Experience or expertise in professional or workplace communication is especially valuable. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise or experience in the following areas:
- business, professional, or workplace communication;
- audience analysis and rhetorical decision-making across written and oral professional genres;
- business writing and/or business presentations;
- team-based communication and collaborative work;
- client-based, experiential, or project-based instruction;
- instructional methods and curricular development;
- teaching students from varied backgrounds and experiences;
- the implications of generative AI for human-centered professional communication; and
- collaborative faculty work, including curriculum initiatives, program assessment, and service.
