Job Summary:
Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Business Teacher to join our Business department. The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator enthusiastic about fostering financial literacy and strong foundational business skills in our students. In this role, you will focus on delivering dynamic instruction in personal money management and accounting, equipping students with essential real-world financial skills, analytical problem-solving abilities, and global economic awareness, while preparing them for advanced-level coursework and future career success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers classroom instruction using a variety of presentation methods to keep students engaged and meet their instructional needs
  • Embraces and utilizes technology in lesson planning and instruction
  • Manages student classroom behavior to promote a safe, positive, and optimal learning environment. This may include reporting incidents for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students, and adhering to state law and school policies
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration, and preparing progress and final report cards
  • Collaborates with the instructional team, accepts feedback, and incorporates improvements into lesson plans
  • Fosters and maintains open collaborative communication with parents, administration, and school counselors
  • Attends department and faculty meetings and contributes to meaningful discussions regarding curriculum, instruction, and evaluation
  • Assumes additional responsibilities, including but not limited to homeroom, study hall, lunch duty, substitute teaching, as needed
  • Upholds the mission of Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women
  • Demonstrates the Mercy charisms and acts as a role model of world-class learning
  • Promotes Mercy values and Critical Concerns in our community
  • Participates in Mercy traditions and celebrations
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Business Education, or related field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles (e.g., debits/credits, financial statements, ledger management) and personal finance concepts (e.g., budgeting, investing, credit, taxes).
  • Experience in classroom instruction at the middle and/or high school levels
  • Demonstrates success in classroom management and a commitment to the success of students
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Business Education, or related field.
  • New York State teacher certification in specific content areas (Business)
  • Five years' teaching experience or equivalent experience in content area
  • Experience teaching in an independent school setting
Pay Range:
  • Minimum $19,017.
