SOM Central Finance is the financial management unit in the School of Medicine responsible for oversight of SOM wide financial performance and partnering with departments to move forward strategic financial initiatives. The Financial Analyst performs analysis and data reviews to assist management in establishing and controlling budgets, setting financial goals, making projections, and meeting fiscal objectives. Performs financial activities in support of various functions, e.g., budgeting, financial planning, revenue and expenditure monitoring against budget, reconciliations and changes, and consolidation. Extracts financial data from various accounting and information systems and generates reports. Performs basic to moderately complex statistical cost and financial analysis of reports and data and prepares reports for management to improve financial performance and compliance. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Interpret data to evaluate and determine past financial performance and/or make financial projections for management who must make overall business decisions. Provide interpretation of accounts, methods, and records for management. Conduct studies of cost and financial results of business activities; recommend adjustments and other cost improvement measures. Review costs and perform cost benefit analysis for projects and/or programs. Produce financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis. Provide reports, findings, and recommendations to management. Assist with preparation of special studies, reports, and analyses. Recommend budget adjustments and other cost improvement measures. Recommend quality control and process improvements regarding the overall business process. Review and assist with analysis of capital expenditures proposals, profit plans, operating records and financial statements. Make recommendations for resolving funding shortfalls. Oversee simple to moderately complex budget accounts Keep abreast and apply a working knowledge of laws and regulations that impact compliance. Use various software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages to assemble, manipulate, and format data. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. Three years of progressively responsible related financial experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
