Job Description

SUMMARY

The Boys Basketball Junior Varsity Coach is responsible for assisting in the development of student-athletes through instruction, leadership, and mentorship. The coach will create a positive and competitive environment that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, academic achievement, and character. The JV Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to ensure alignment within the overall basketball program and support the growth of student-athletes both on and off the court.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that develop basketball fundamentals, team concepts, and competitive skills.

Assist in implementing the philosophy, systems, and expectations of the Bradshaw Mountain High School Boys Basketball Program.

Instruct student-athletes in the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of basketball.

Establish and maintain appropriate standards of conduct, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Promote academic success and monitor the eligibility and progress of student-athletes.

Supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and other team-related activities.

Prepare athletes physically and mentally for competition while emphasizing safety and injury prevention.

Assist with game preparation, scouting, player evaluations, and in-game coaching responsibilities.

Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and school personnel.

Ensure compliance with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), Humboldt Unified School District, and Bradshaw Mountain High School policies and procedures.

Attend coaches' meetings, athletic department meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.

Assist with program fundraising, community engagement, youth camps, and off-season development activities.

Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, uniforms, and program supplies.

Promote positive public relations for the school and athletic program.

Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive role model for student-athletes at all times.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

Previous basketball coaching and/or playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or comparable level.

Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, and player development.

Ability to motivate, mentor, and build positive relationships with student-athletes.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain prior to the season.

Required NFHS Certifications:

Fundamentals of Coaching

Concussion in Sports

Protecting Students from Abuse

Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Heat Illness Prevention

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous high school coaching experience.

Experience working within a program that emphasizes vertical alignment from freshman through varsity levels.

Experience organizing camps, clinics, or youth basketball programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough understanding of basketball rules, strategies, and player development principles.

Ability to teach and demonstrate basketball techniques effectively.

Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Commitment to sportsmanship, integrity, and educational athletics.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

WORK CONDITIONS

Practices and contests occur primarily after school hours and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks.

Travel to away contests is required.

Position requires prolonged standing, walking, and active participation during practices and games.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated by the Head Boys Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, and/or School Administration in accordance with District procedures.
