About the Role We are seeking a compassionate, energetic Independent Living Skills Instructor to join our Program team. PM Job Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support Teach and model essential
Independent Living Skills:
cooking, cleaning, budgeting, shopping, hygiene, transportation, safety awareness, recreation, and community participation. Deliver person-centered instruction aligned with each student's Individual Support Plan (ISP). Facilitate meaningful, hands-on learning experiences using Meristem's curriculum and Waldorf-inspired educational principles. Support students in both campus and community settings; safely accompany or transport students as assigned. Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Documentation & Recordkeeping Complete daily notes, incident reports, and Regional Center documentation on time. Track student progress and adjust instruction based on individual needs. Maintain accurate timekeeping and monitor instructional materials. Collaboration & Professional Development Work closely with coworkers, supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Participate in coaching, training, and professional development. Support onboarding of new staff and students. Contribute positively to Meristem's collaborative, mission-centered culture. Compliance & Safety Follow ISP goals, organizational policies, and safety procedures. Maintain required certifications (ProACT, CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter). Uphold confidentiality, HIPAA standards, and professional boundaries. Keep learning environments organized, clean, and safe.
Requirements:
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to support autistic adults using respectful, person-centered practices. Calm, grounded presence with effective de-escalation skills. Excellent communication, organization, and time management. Adaptability, problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous learning. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services, Special Education, or related field. 1-2 years supporting autistic adults or individuals with developmental disabilities. Experience with independent living skills instruction or community-based learning. Familiarity with Waldorf Education, Ruskin Mill principles, or experiential learning models.
