Working Hours:

This is a temporary position, with expected hours between 4 to 6 per day Monday - Thursday. The Chaffey College Water Instructor will teach children to swim and will enforce applicable rules, regulations, and ordinances at a college swimming pool to prevent accidents

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A

valid Lifeguard Training Certificate issued by the American Red Cross; A valid First Aid Certificate or its equivalent issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association; A valid certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association; A valid certificate in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) issued by the American Red Cross; Valid Water Safety Instructor Certificate issued by the American Red Cross; Minimum one year of related experience;

Knowledge of:

Rules, regulations, and ordinances related to the operation and use of college swimming pools and swimming pool equipment. Water safety and lifesaving methods including techniques of resuscitation and first aid. Health standards and safety practices for swimming pools. Emergency procedures to obtain rescue services. Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and classified professionals. Standard swim strokes and has a background in Aquatics. Supervision, care, and interpersonal interactions with youth participants.

Ability to:

Apply swimming and pool rescue techniques. Enforce applicable rules and regulations and maintain discipline. Remain calm in emergencies, assess situations accurately, and think and act quickly. Remain alert and maintain focus of attention for long periods of time without being distracted. Administer first aid, including CPR/AED. Work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Instruct 4-8 students at one time. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area. Respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner. Consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Perform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Additional Information
