A Coach works with individual athletes or with sports teams to develop skills and improve teamwork and competitive performance. Runs practice sessions and physical conditioning programs; assesses the strengths and weaknesses of players; plans strategies for games; motivates and encourage players and teaches good sportsmanship.
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is a program of Raising Shasta and is dedicated to empowering youth through sports, mentorship, and positive community engagement. The PAL Lead Boxing Coach will be an integral part of this mission, leading boxing classes, mentoring youth, and fostering personal growth at the Redding and Anderson Teen Centers, as well as satellite locations in Fall River and Burney. This role emphasizes building strong relationships, creating a safe and inclusive environment, and inspiring youth to develop confidence, discipline, and resilience both inside and outside the gym.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead structured boxing classes in Redding, Anderson, and quarterly satellite locations (Fall River and Burney), ensuring instruction is safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. Serve as a mentor and positive role model for youth, promoting discipline, respect, teamwork, perseverance, and substance use prevention both inside and outside the gym. Communicate promptly with youth, families, and staff regarding class schedules, changes, or cancellations. Help track and maintain permission slips, waivers, and attendance records for all participants. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized gym environment, including equipment upkeep. Provide tours, demonstrations, and community outreach to promote PAL boxing programs. Foster strong relationships with youth participants, encouraging continued involvement and personal growth. Help to build structure within the program with intentional mentoring. Help to recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches, including law enforcement. Collaborate with the Director of Youth Services, Executive Director, and other PAL staff to support program goals and events. Assist with planning and supporting The Roaring Rumble event, including training boxers for competition, providing coaching expertise, and working additional hours as needed during this time. Participate in open houses, community events, and fundraising activities to support Raising Shasta programs.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in boxing instruction, coaching, or related training. Strong mentorship and leadership skills, with the ability to connect with and inspire youth. Ability to manage multiple class sites and travel between program locations. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all participants. Experience working with youth facing elevated risk factors, strongly preferred. CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Active USA Boxing Coaching Membership (or ability to register for one.) Valid Driver's License Reliable Transportation and the ability to travel throughout Shasta County. Must pass a background check.
Pay:
$21.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 25.0 per week
