Job Description

Camp Schodack is looking for a friendly, caring, and energetic young baseball/softball counselor for their fast-paced and fun team. Gain valuable hands-on professional experience in a fun and warm environment. A demanding and rewarding job that is an essential part of our summer team and the Schodack community.

The Activity:
The Baseball/Softball Counselor at Camp Schodack teaches softball and/or baseball to all campers ages 8 through 15. You must know the game well and must be able to teach basic skills at different ability levels. Experience in coaching children is very helpful since you will often have 12 to 20 campers during a 50-minute period (with 1-2 bunk counselors there to support). During that time, you will skill build, practice, and organize games. You must strive to make the activity motivating and fun for the campers. In addition to activity periods, the baseball/softball coach organizes fun tournaments and annual events. You will have support from your supervisor in setting these up.
During the evening:
You will join other activity counselors in helping to run the evening program. After the evening program is finished you will have time off except for two nights a week when you sit OD (on duty) for a bunk.
Other responsibilities:
You will attend a paid orientation Help foster a positive environment You will write an article for the yearbook. This is an ongoing process through the summer and you should keep track of campers' achievements and funny moments. There are other yearbooks on camp, which serve as good examples You will make end-of-session awards for those campers who have participated most enthusiastically during the summer You will complete staff evaluations in a timely manner and make program recommendations for the following year When your activity is canceled (i.e. rainy days) you will be asked to help out in some other way, often with your assigned bunk or in running a special activity You will attend all scheduled meals, staff meetings, and camp announcements Assist with additional tasks when requested Job skills/requirements Completed freshman year of college or work equivalent Strong desire to work with children and be active Childcare or coaching experience (strongly preferred) Previous baseball experience (required) Problem-solving skills Ability to work in a team Warm and caring personality Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Dates June 15, 2026 - August 16, 2026
