About Norwalk/Stamford Grassroots Tennis and Education Norwalk/Stamford Grassroots Tennis and Education is a youth-development organization that uses tennis, education, enrichment, mentoring, and opportunity to help young people develop the skills and confidence to succeed on the court, in school, and in life. The Opportunity We are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and youth-centered Tennis Coach to join our team. The Tennis Coach will provide high-quality tennis instruction to youth of varying ages and skill levels while serving as a positive mentor and role model. The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of tennis with patience, energy, professionalism, and a genuine interest in helping young people grow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to use their tennis experience to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. Key Responsibilities
- Provide engaging tennis instruction for beginner, intermediate, and developing competitive players.
- Teach tennis fundamentals including technique, movement, footwork, strategy, scoring, match play, and sportsmanship.
- Implement Grassroots' established tennis curriculum and adapt instruction to participant's age, skill level, and learning needs.
- Create a positive, structured, inclusive, and safe on-court environment.
- Reinforce confidence, discipline, perseverance, teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and healthy competition.
- Build supportive and appropriate relationships with participating youth.
- Help participants establish goals and recognize their progress.
- Maintain attendance and other required participant information.
- Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, inventory, and proper storage.
- Support tournaments, match play, clinics, camps, special events, and community tennis activities.
- Follow all organizational safety, safeguarding, emergency, and participant-supervision procedures.
- Collaborate with education and youth-development staff to support Grassroots' whole-child approach.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, and other organizational activities. Preferred Responsibilities
- Experience in racquet stringing
- Fluent in Spanish
- USTA, PTR, RSPA/USPTA, or comparable tennis coaching certification
- CPR/First Aid certification/ Willing to obtain certification What We're Looking For Candidates should have demonstrated tennis playing and/or coaching experience and a strong understanding of tennis fundamentals.
Experience coaching or working with children and teenagers is strongly preferred. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong communication skills, reliability, patience, professionalism, and the ability to motivate young people with different backgrounds and skill levels. Because much of our youth programming takes place outside of school hours, candidates should have availability for afternoons and early evenings, with some weekend, summer, and school-break programming as needed.
