Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as our Boys Cross Country Head Coach at Wooster Middle School for 2026-2027. This seasonal position is ideal for someone passionate about athletics and youth development, who can help foster a positive and encouraging environment for our student-athletes. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to support the training and development of middle school runners, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Responsibilities
  • Planning and conducting daily practice sessions, ensuring a safe and productive training environment.
  • Develop and implement training plans that focus on skill development, endurance, and overall fitness.
  • Provide guidance and support to student-athletes during practices and competitions, encouraging their personal and athletic growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance and progress of athletes, offering constructive feedback to enhance their skills.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and team events.
  • Organizing and supervising team events, including meets, fundraisers, and team-building activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all school policies and regulations as well as relevant athletic guidelines. Requirements
  • Previous experience in coaching or competing in cross country or distance running is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of cross country running and training techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, athletes, and parents to create a supportive team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting the physical, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Availability to attend all practices and competitions during the cross country season.
  • Coaching Permit.
