HOUR POSITION SUMMARY
The Watertown Parks & Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable part-time Seasonal Recreation Swim Coach to work primarily with our 10 & under swimmers, including the 8 & under and 9-10 age groups. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with young swimmers and be able to create a positive, encouraging, and organized team environment while helping participants develop their swimming skills, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Practices are typically held three to four days per week from approximately 5:00 PM-6:30 PM. Coaches are also expected to attend approximately 8 swim meets per season, which are held primarily on Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, write, and organize age-appropriate practices for the 8 & Under and 9-10 age groups. Coach swimmers in proper stroke technique, starts, turns, and overall swimming fundamentals. Provide instruction and encouragement appropriate for younger and developing swimmers. Prepare and organize swim meet lineups for the 8 & Under and 9-10 age groups. Assist with organizing and supervising swimmers during swim meets, including making sure swimmers are prepared and report to their events on time. Communicate and work cooperatively with other Watertown Recreation Swim Team coaches, Parks & Recreation staff, swimmers, and parents. Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive team atmosphere. Help maintain a safe and well-organized practice and meet environment.
REQUIREMENTS
Previous competitive swimming and/or swim coaching experience preferred. Experience working with children, particularly swimmers ages 10 and under, preferred. Knowledge of competitive swimming strokes, starts, turns, relays, and meet procedures. Ability to organize practices and swim meet lineups. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Dependable, patient, enthusiastic, and able to create a fun and positive experience for young swimmers. Must be available for scheduled practices and swim meets. Join the Watertown Recreation Swim Team and help our swimmers build skills, confidence, teamwork, and a love for competitive swimming!
