Position Summary The Volleyball Coach/Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading volleyball practices, clinics, classes, and/or recreational programs for youth and participants of varying skill levels. The Coach/Instructor creates a positive, safe, and inclusive environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and healthy competition while supporting the mission and values of the YMCA. Essential Functions Plan and conduct engaging volleyball practices, classes, clinics, and training sessions appropriate for the age and skill level of participants. Teach fundamental volleyball skills, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, footwork, positioning, and defensive techniques. Provide clear instruction and constructive feedback to help participants improve their individual skills and overall understanding of the game. Teach and reinforce volleyball rules, game concepts, strategies, and proper techniques. Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, discipline, confidence, and positive character development. Create an encouraging and inclusive environment where all participants feel welcome, supported, and valued. Adapt instruction and activities to accommodate different ages, abilities, and skill levels. Always maintain appropriate supervision of participants and follow YMCA safety and child protection guidelines. Inspect the volleyball court, nets, balls, and other equipment to ensure they are safe and appropriate for program activities. Demonstrate proper techniques and enforce program rules and safety procedures. Communicate effectively and professionally with participants, parents/guardians, volunteers, and YMCA staff. Encourage participants through positive reinforcement and provide appropriate guidance when addressing performance or behavioral concerns. Arrive on time and prepare for all assigned practices, classes, clinics, games, or programs. Maintain accurate attendance and complete required program documentation. Assist with program setup, breakdown, and equipment storage as needed. Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development as required. Follow all YMCA policies, procedures, and standards of conduct. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous volleyball playing, coaching, or instructional experience preferred. Experience working with children and/or youth preferred. Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, techniques, and strategies. Ability to effectively communicate and instruct participants in a positive, encouraging, and age-appropriate manner. Ability to create and maintain a safe, organized, and positive program environment. Must be dependable, punctual, energetic, and professional. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying skill levels. Must be able to successfully complete required background screening and YMCA-required training. Certifications CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within the timeframe established by the YMCA. Additional coaching, sports, or youth development certifications are preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, run, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout a gymnasium or athletic facility for extended periods. Ability to demonstrate volleyball skills and participate in physical activities as needed. Ability to lift and move volleyball equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to respond quickly to participant needs and emergency situations. Visual and auditory ability to monitor participants and respond appropriately to safety concerns. Work Environment The Volleyball Coach/Instructor will primarily work in a gymnasium, athletic facility, or other YMCA program space. The position may require work during evenings, weekends, and other times based on program schedules.
Pay:
$17.39 - $23.53 per hour
