Position Summary:
Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.
Essential Functions:
Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance. Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs. Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.). Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. Proficient in 4 of the 6 basic swim strokes but we will try to do them all. Front Crawl 25 yards Breast Stroke 25 yards Side Stroke 25 yards Butterfly 25 yards Elementary Backstroke 25 yards Backstroke 25 yards Tread Water for 2 minutes showing proficiency in: Whip kick Scissor kick

Qualifications:
Certifications:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, First Aid certification. Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. YMCA Swim Instructor certification. 4. At least 16 years of age. Must pass Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Physical Demands:
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
