Immediately Job Description High School Track & Field - Head Coach
Overview:
The Head Track & Field Coach at Danville Community School District is responsible for leading and managing the high school track & field program. This position requires a passionate and experienced individual with strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills. The Head Track & Field Coach will be responsible for developing student-athletes both on and off the track, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting sportsmanship and skill development.
Qualifications:
Valid Iowa Coaching License required Previous coaching experience (preferred, but not necessary), preferably at the high school level. Extensive knowledge of track & field and coaching techniques. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes. Commitment to fostering a positive team culture and promoting sportsmanship.
Responsibilities:
Coaching and Player Development:
Design and implement effective and age-appropriate training programs. Provide skill instruction and development for individual players and the team. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages personal and team growth. Develop and implement meet strategies and tactics.
Program Administration:
Collaborate with the athletic director to ensure compliance with school and district policies. Organize and coordinate all aspects of the track & field program, including tryouts, practices, and meet schedules. Manage equipment inventory and ensure the proper maintenance of facilities and report any needs/requests to DCSD Athletic Director Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
Meet Day Responsibilities:
Coordinate pre-meet preparations, including warm-ups and strategy discussions. Manage real-time decision-making, substitutions, and player rotations. Provide constructive feedback to players during and after meets.
Recruitment and Retention:
Recruit and retain talented student-athletes for the track & field program.
Mentorship and Leadership:
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and character development. Provide guidance and mentorship to assistant coaches. Foster a sense of teamwork, discipline, and dedication among players.
Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with players, parents, and DCSD administrators. Regularly update and inform about team activities, schedules, and expectations. Danville Community School District is an equal opportunity employer and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.
