Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the Waukee Family YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, this full-time position's off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth and culture.
Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions Completion of high school or equivalent Two years of competitive coaching experience Working knowledge of competitive teams Personal computer skills, including the use of Google Workspace or Microsoft Office products, required. Registered USA Swimming Coach preferred Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent
  • prior to starting if hired. Child Abuse Prevention Training
  • prior to starting if hired and maintained annually. YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Online Course
  • prior to starting if hired.
Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee: Is regularly required to talk and hear. Is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. Is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, crawl, and must be able to move around the work environment. Needs specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to changing working environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and copiers. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position will work in an office and in a pool environment. This position works a standard work week, but will frequently work early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Travel will be required for competitive swim meets including out-of-the-area and overnight travel.
