Lead Coach / Instructor — Gorilla Baseball Club (Vernon Hills, IL) Gorilla Baseball Academy has been developing players in Lake County since 2019. We run six travel teams 10u through 14u out of our own indoor facility at 958 Corporate Woods Parkway in Vernon Hills — full cages, HitTrax, turf, and the room to actually train instead of just get reps. We're hiring a Lead Coach to run offseason team practices and group classes, and to stay on through the summer season. What the job is You'll run practices and classes. Not assist, not stand around shagging — run them. Monday through Thursday evenings from November through March, plus Saturday mornings and possibly Sunday evenings with teams. April through July you'll coach at games and cover weekday practices.
This is group work:
team practices and small-group classes, twelve kids on the turf rather than four in a cage. Teaching a group is its own skill and it's the one we're hiring for. You'll have a second coach with you some nights, not most of them. Assume you're running the room on your own. We're a development program with our own way of doing things. Every player here trains like a shortstop regardless of where they end up playing, positions are earned in practice rather than handed out, and we incorporate Driveline concepts and USA Baseball's development path into how we teach. If that's how you already think about player development, you'll fit. If it isn't, this probably isn't the spot. What we're looking for College playing experience or equivalent and either experience or the desire to teach travel level baseball to kids. You need to be able to hold a room of eleven-year-olds, teach something specific in 60 minutes, and communicate with parents like an adult. Prior coaching experience helps but a good young coach who wants to learn beats an experienced one going through the motions. Background check required and we pay for it. What it pays $30-35/hour depending on experience. November through March runs about 18-22 hours a week, evening-heavy. Summer is different — tournament weekends are long, and we'll be clear about which teams you're assigned to before the season starts. If you want more hours, there's more work here — Sunday afternoon kids classes, our hitting leagues November through February, and private lessons on Fridays. Some of it's weekly, some seasonal. The people who want volume here generally get it. This role is built to grow. As our class and camp business expands, the goal is for this to become a full-time, year-round position. That's not a promise on a timeline — it depends on how the demand builds and how you build it — but if you're looking for a place to grow into something rather than pick up hours, this is that spot. To apply Apply on Indeed and make sure your resume or bio includes your playing and or coaching experience. If it looks like a fit I'll have have a conversation about the role and have you come run a practice with real kids before either of us commits to anything.
