General Summary:
We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic, growth-minded coach who is ready to assist in the development of our student athletes to help them become better basketball players, better students, and better citizens. In compliance with NJCAA and Glen Oaks regulations, and in conjunction with the Head Coach and Athletic Director, the Assistant Basketball Coach at Glen Oaks Community College will be responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing, coaching, and evaluating all aspects and facets of a successful basketball program at the NJCAA Division II level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The assistant coach will share responsibility, with the head coach, for the behavior of his/her athletes including but not limited to: on trips as guests of an opponent(s) scheduled practice sessions general conduct on and off campus which is within the purview of the coach. Ensure that injuries are handled in accordance with the student athlete Insurance Agreement and the Policies and Procedures Manual of Glen Oaks Community College. Assist the head coach in the proper use, storage and maintenance of his/her team's equipment. Ensure that the locker room, weight room, equipment room, and gym are left in proper order following all practices and scrimmages. Maintain the highest level of professionalism, ensuring compliance with all NJCAA and College rules, policies, and procedures. Treat the student-athlete appropriately and not engage in berating, abusive, or humiliating behavior. Report any ethical or policy violations or concerns through the proper channels as appropriate. Support the academic, athletic, and personal development of the student-athlete. Assist in monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes. Utilizing college vehicles, assist with transportation of student athletes to college sponsored events. Participate in the recruitment of athletes following GOCC athletic department and NJCAA guidelines under the supervision of the head coach. Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned by the head coach and Athletic Director. Required Qualifications:
  • Two or more years coaching in college, high school, or club athletics.
  • CPR Certified, or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions and a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior college coaching experience.
