Hazel Park Schools Assistant Drama Coach Position Overview The Assistant Drama Coach supports the Drama Director in developing and maintaining a vibrant, excellence-focused, and learner-centered high school theatre program. The Assistant Drama Coach helps students build skills in collaboration, leadership, and technical theatre while contributing to a positive, constructive, and professional environment. Key Responsibilities Supervise and support students during work sessions, technical rehearsals, performances, set strike, and other theatre-related activities. Mentor students in areas of theatrical specialty, especially technical theatre skills. Help create a supportive environment that encourages creativity, confidence, collaboration, and respect. Assist with production planning, organization, scheduling, communication, and more. Collaborate with students and staff to develop sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and other production elements, as needed. Help maintain orderly theatre spaces and supplies. Teach responsible use of technical theatre equipment and facilities. Communicate effectively and proactively with students, colleagues, and others. Preferred Expertise Candidates with experience in technical theatre are especially encouraged to apply.
Preferred areas of expertise include:
Lighting design, programming, and operation Sound design and operation Scenic design and set & prop construction Basic theatrical rigging and backstage operations Costume design and wardrobe Stage management and production organization Qualifications & Skills Deep experience in high school, college, community, and/or professional theatre. Ability to work effectively with teenagers and adults in a collaborative and educational artistic environment. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Dependability, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to learn. Commitment to safety, inclusion, and positive mentorship. Fingerprinting and a clear criminal background check. Schedule & Commitment The position requires several evenings and some weekends throughout the school year. General availability of 3â€"6 p.m. weekdays is requested. The specific schedule will vary depending on the Hazel Park Drama calendar, which typically includes two major productions and some smaller activities. Compensation This role is compensated via a $4,000 stipend, per the HPEA contract.
