High School Job Summary:
Climax-Scotts Jr./Sr. High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Varsity Track & Field Coach to lead our high school track & field program. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering athletic excellence, personal growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship in student-athletes. This position includes planning and leading practices, coaching competitions, developing event-specific training plans, and building a cohesive track & field program aligned across all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices, conditioning sessions, and event-specific skill development Coach and manage all varsity track & field meets, invitationals, conference, and post-season competitions Teach and reinforce proper techniques, event strategies, and MHSAA rules for track & field events Develop individualized training programs that promote athlete growth, performance, and injury prevention Supervise and collaborate with sub-varsity coaches to ensure program consistency and athlete development Promote academic success, character development, leadership, and a positive team culture Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement Coordinate meet entries, event assignments, travel logistics, and team organization Maintain inventory, care of equipment, facilities, and assist with program budgeting Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, coaching staff, athletic director, and school administration Encourage offseason conditioning and participation in opportunities that support athlete development Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and MHSAA regulations
Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required Previous coaching experience in track & field is preferred Demonstrated knowledge of track & field events, training principles, and MHSAA rules Ability to effectively teach, motivate, and develop student-athletes of varying ability levels Strong leadership skills with a commitment to being a positive role model Ability to organize, manage, and work with individuals and groups Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
