Job Description

Suttons Bay Public Schools is hiring a JV Girls Basketball Coach who is community focused to lead our team for the 2026-27 school year. Candidates must be student centered, be a positive role model, and be able to encourage and grow the skills our student athletes in the game of basketball. Coaching experience is preferred, although those who have played the game will also be considered.

Qualifications:

Experience coaching the sport preferred

Experience working with high school age student athletes

Strong, positive, leadership and organizational skills

Must pass a state and federal background check

Performance Responsibilities:

Must conduct regular practice and team conditioning. Some practice and conditioning may happen out of season

Ability to motivate and lead student athletes

Instruct the team on game strategies, techniques and skill building under the varsity coaches direction

Demonstrates strong leadership skills and sportsmanship

Adheres to the MHSAA Coaches Guidebook and Suttons Bay Coaches Handbook

Acts as a positive role model on and off the court

Engages with local and community programs related to the sport

Maintains competency in MHSAA rules, event procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport

Communicates effectively with the Athletic Department and Varsity Coach regarding scheduling, budget, injuries, etc

Communicates effectively with Suttons Bay Athletic Boosters in support of their program

Communicates effectively with parents and the community regarding all aspects of the program

Follows district policies and procedures regarding facility use, transportation, purchasing, fundraising, etc

Provides adequate supervision of events until all athletes have left the facilities Maintains adequate records of rosters, stats and awards Effectively recognizes the efforts of student-athletes and plans special events in this regard (banquets, parent night, etc.)

Establishes and maintains the importance of the meaning of student-athlete, including check-ins with all stakeholders about student eligibility Must be CPR and First Aid Certified

Terms of Employment

Part-time, sport season position

Pay is based on Schedule B of the SBEA contract

Athletic positions are for a period of one season (school year) and require yearly Board of Education approval with positive evaluations
