About The Fortis Academy The Fortis Academy is a sports performance and athlete development organization committed to helping athletes grow physically, mentally, and personally. We work with athletes ranging from developing youth competitors to high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. Our approach goes beyond simply making athletes stronger. Through high-quality coaching, intentional relationships, and a culture built around excellence, leadership, and character, we aim to develop better movers, better competitors, and stronger people. We are seeking a full-time Strength & Conditioning Coach who is passionate about coaching athletes, developing meaningful relationships, and becoming an integral part of the Fortis team. Position Overview The Strength & Conditioning Coach will lead individual, small-group, team, and camp training sessions at The Fortis Academy. The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of strength and conditioning with the ability to teach, communicate, motivate, and connect with athletes of different ages and ability levels. Great coaching involves much more than writing workouts. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of athlete development, pays attention to detail, brings energy to the training environment, and continually seeks to grow as a professional. Primary Responsibilities Coach strength, speed, power, agility, mobility, and conditioning sessions for youth, high school, collegiate, professional, and adult athletes Lead individual, small-group, team, and camp training sessions Teach proper exercise technique and movement mechanics while maintaining a safe training environment Modify exercises and training sessions based on an athlete's age, experience, injury history, movement ability, and performance goals Assist in developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs Conduct athlete assessments and use the results to guide training decisions Monitor athlete progress and communicate recommendations to athletes, parents, coaches, and Fortis staff when appropriate Create an energetic, disciplined, positive, and encouraging training environment Develop strong professional relationships with athletes and families Help athletes develop consistency, work ethic, confidence, leadership, and personal responsibility Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the training facility and equipment Assist with camps, combines, testing events, team training, and other Fortis programs Collaborate with other Fortis coaches to continually improve programming and the athlete experience Participate in staff meetings, education, and ongoing professional development Represent The Fortis Academy professionally within the facility and throughout the athletic community

You love coaching. You enjoy being on the floor, teaching athletes, correcting movement, encouraging effort, and helping people improve. You connect with athletes. You can relate to a 10-year-old athlete while also earning the respect of a collegiate or professional athlete. You understand training. You have a strong foundation in strength training, speed development, movement quality, athletic performance, and injury-risk reduction. You pay attention to detail. You notice technique, effort, body language, and the small things that influence an athlete's development. You bring energy. You understand that the coach helps establish the environment and culture of every training session. You are coachable. You welcome feedback and continually look for ways to become a better coach. You take ownership. You are proactive and don't wait to be told about every task that needs to be completed. You work well on a team. You value collaboration and recognize that developing athletes is a shared responsibility. You value character. You recognize the influence coaches have on young people and take that responsibility seriously. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, athletic training, physical education, or a related field—or equivalent relevant coaching experience Strong understanding of foundational strength and conditioning principles Experience coaching or working with athletes Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to effectively coach both individuals and groups Reliable, organized, professional, and punctual Ability to work a schedule that may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends Current CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification Preferred Qualifications CSCS, SCCC, NASM-PES, USAW, or another recognized strength and conditioning certification Experience working in a private sports performance facility Experience coaching youth and high school athletes Experience with speed and agility development Experience designing individualized training programs Experience with hockey, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, football, or other field, court, or ice sports Corrective exercise, mobility, rehabilitation, or return-to-performance experience Collegiate or professional athletic experience is a plus but is not required Fortis Coaching Philosophy Fortis coaches do more than supervise workouts. They remain actively engaged throughout every session by teaching, correcting, encouraging, challenging, and building relationships. Our coaches understand the why behind the training and can communicate it in a way athletes understand. They recognize that every interaction with a young athlete is an opportunity to positively influence that athlete's development. At Fortis, performance matters—but the person matters more. We believe great sports performance coaching develops qualities that extend beyond athletics: discipline, confidence, resilience, leadership, responsibility, humility, and the willingness to pursue excellence. Our goal is to create an environment where athletes are challenged to become stronger competitors while also becoming stronger people. Schedule and Work Environment This is a full-time, active coaching position requiring extended periods of standing, demonstrating exercises, moving equipment, and working throughout a sports performance facility. The schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends based on seasonal training schedules, team contracts, camps, and athlete programming.
Expected hours:
40 hours per week Typical schedule: Must be willing to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.
Compensation:
$40,000+ Compensation within the listed range will be based on experience, education, certifications, coaching ability, and position responsibilities. Annual performance reviews with opportunities for merit-based salary increases.

$40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
