Full Job Description Overview:
The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking an Substitute Youth Water Polo Coach at Platte County Community Center South in Parkville, MO. The Substitute Coach leads practices and supports athletes when the Head Water Polo Coach is unavailable, so the program keeps running smoothly for mixed-gender 10U, 14U, and high school athletes. The Substitute Coach follows established practice plans, keeps athletes safe and engaged, and helps maintain a positive team culture built on skill development, sportsmanship, and fun. This role is a great fit for a current or former water polo player, swim coach, or youth sports coach in the Parkville, Platte County, or Northland area looking for flexible evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities:
Design, plan, and lead safe, age-appropriate practices for 10U, 14U, and high school athletes. Recruit and retain athletes to grow the program toward a long-term goal of serving up to 200 participants. Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and families, maintaining clear, consistent, and positive communication. Coordinate participation in local tournaments, including logistics, rosters, and travel communication. Manage program equipment, including inventory, maintenance, and replacement needs. Build community awareness and engagement through outreach events, clinics, and partnerships with schools and local organizations. Develop and implement a long-term vision for program growth, including expanded practice schedules and additional age groups. Foster a team culture centered on athlete development, sportsmanship, competitive excellence, and family involvement. Ensure all practices, games, and team activities comply with YMCA policies, USA Water Polo rules, and applicable safety standards. Supervise and mentor assistant coaches or volunteers as the program grows. Maintain accurate records related to athlete registration, participation, and program documentation as required. Mandated to report suspected child abuse and neglect and must notify appropriate associates of any suspected abuse. Must notify appropriate associates of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.
Qualifications:
Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPRPro/AED certifications. Minimum one year experience coaching youth or competitive water polo. Active USA Water Polo Coach Membership. Current USA Water Polo background screening. Current SafeSport certification. Experience building or growing an athletic program from an early stage. Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions. Demonstrated ability to work with youth across a range of ages and skill levels. Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality. Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient. Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software. Available to work evenings and weekends. Must have reliable transportation. Travel around the Greater Kansas City area is required.
