Job Description

Summary Hamilton High School is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead our Speech and Debate program for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will foster a supportive and engaging environment for students to develop their public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentation skills. This seasonal position requires a commitment to mentoring students, organizing practices and competitions, and promoting a culture of excellence within the team. Responsibilities
  • Organize and conduct regular practice sessions, ensuring all team members receive personalized coaching and feedback.
  • Prepare students for local, regional, and national competitions, including overseeing registration and logistics.
  • Foster a team-oriented atmosphere that encourages collaboration, respect, and sportsmanship among team members.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and performance.
  • Stay current with developments in speech and debate, including rules, formats, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff to integrate speech and debate skills into the broader educational experience.
  • Mentor and support students in developing their individual speaking and debating styles, while providing constructive criticism to enhance their performance.
  • Manage team budget, fundraising efforts, and any necessary equipment or materials for practices and competitions.
  • Attend all relevant meetings, events, and competitions as required. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience in speech and debate or a related extracurricular activity.
  • Strong understanding of speech and debate formats, rules, and strategies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying skill levels.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends during the competition season.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse team environment.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check per School Board policy.
