Job Description
The Assistant Wrestling Coach supports the Head Wrestling Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting a successful middle school wrestling program. The coach is responsible for helping develop student-athletes' wrestling skills, physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and character while maintaining a safe, positive, and competitive environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices, conditioning sessions, and wrestling activities. Teach and reinforce proper wrestling techniques, fundamentals, rules, strategies, and safety procedures. Assist with preparing student-athletes for competitions and tournaments. Supervise and provide instruction to student-athletes during practices, matches, tournaments, and team activities. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and positive character development. Monitor student-athlete behavior and ensure compliance with school, athletic department, and district expectations. Assist with managing equipment, uniforms, facilities, and wrestling room organization. Assist with team travel and supervision of student-athletes at away competitions. Communicate professionally and appropriately with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, school administration, parents/guardians, officials, and student-athletes. Assist with maintaining accurate team rosters, attendance, eligibility requirements, and other athletic records as assigned. Follow all school, district, state athletic association, and athletic department policies and procedures. Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development, CPR/first-aid training, and other athletic department activities. Serve as a positive role model and representative of the school and athletic program. Perform other duties assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Director.Qualifications:
Previous wrestling experience and/or coaching experience preferred. Ability to effectively teach wrestling fundamentals and techniques. Strong communication, leadership, organization, and teamwork skills. Ability to work effectively with middle school student-athletes. Commitment to student-athlete safety, academic success, sportsmanship, and character development. Must meet all school district and state athletic association coaching requirements.Position Expectations:
The Assistant Wrestling Coach is expected to uphold the standards and expectations of the Lexington Middle School Athletic Department and serve as a positive representative of the school, its student-athletes, families, and community.Benefits
