Job Description

Sports Performance Operations Manager & Coach Flex Affect | Smithfield, NC |
Full-Time Compensation:
$60,000-$65,000 base salary + performance-based bonuses on facility performance, growth, and achievement of key goals. Flex Affect is looking for an operator who can coach. This is an operations leadership position inside a sports performance facility — not a full-time coaching position. Your primary responsibility is making sure the facility, staff, schedule, athlete experience, and day-to-day systems operate at a high level. At the same time, this person must have legitimate strength & conditioning or sports-performance coaching experience. You will need to step onto the floor, coach athletes, and conduct athlete assessments when needed. Facility & Daily Operations — Primary Responsibility Own the day-to-day operation and readiness of the facility Manage athlete and coach scheduling Ensure sessions start and finish on time Manage staffing needs, coach coverage, and schedule changes Maintain facility organization, cleanliness, equipment standards, and overall presentation Identify operational problems before they become owner problems Follow and improve SOPs and internal systems Track operational KPIs and hold the team accountable to standards Coordinate communication between coaches, athletes, parents, and leadership Help onboard and develop coaches Ensure athletes consistently receive the Flex Affect experience regardless of which coach is working Coaching & Athlete Assessments This isn't a desk-only management position. You must be comfortable stepping onto the floor when needed.
Responsibilities include:
Coaching youth and adult performance sessions Conducting initial athlete assessments Evaluating basic movement, strength, speed, power, and performance metrics Explaining assessment results to athletes and parents Making appropriate training recommendations Understanding strength & conditioning programming principles Providing coaching feedback and helping maintain coaching standards across the staff Growth & Athlete Experience You will also play a role in helping Flex Affect grow.
This may include:
Following up with prospective athletes and parents Helping convert assessments into training memberships Improving athlete retention and overall experience Building relationships with local teams, coaches, schools, and community partners Supporting events, camps, testing days, and community initiatives Identifying opportunities to improve revenue, scheduling efficiency, and facility utilization Who We're Looking For The right person is highly organized, takes ownership, communicates well, and doesn't need to be reminded about what needs to happen next.
Required:
Previous strength & conditioning, sports-performance, personal-training, or comparable coaching experience Experience coaching athletes in a structured training environment Working knowledge of strength & conditioning principles Ability to confidently lead an athlete assessment Strong organizational and operational skills Experience leading people, schedules, projects, or day-to-day operations Strong communication skills with athletes, parents, staff, and prospects CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain it
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Business, or related field CSCS, CSCCa, NASM-PES, USAW, or comparable certification Experience managing a gym, sports-performance facility, fitness facility, or similar operation Experience with athlete testing and performance technology Sales, membership, or business-development experience Experience managing and developing coaches Schedule This is not a traditional 9-to-5 position. Our busiest training times are early mornings and late afternoons/evenings, and this role needs to provide leadership during key operating hours. The schedule offers flexibility outside of those core training times. We care more about the facility being properly managed, the team being supported, and responsibilities being handled than requiring someone to sit in the facility during unnecessary hours. The right person should be comfortable with a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, a break during slower midday hours, and returning for afternoon/evening training periods. This Position Is Probably Not For You If... Your only coaching experience is recreational or volunteer sports coaching You have never coached strength & conditioning or structured performance training You only want to coach and have little interest in operations You prefer waiting for direction rather than taking ownership You aren't comfortable talking with parents or prospective clients You aren't comfortable discussing training recommendations after an assessment What Success Looks Like Within this role, success means: The facility runs smoothly. Coaches know what's expected. Sessions operate on time and to the Flex Standard. Athletes and parents receive consistent communication. Assessments are handled professionally. Leads don't fall through the cracks. Problems are addressed quickly. Leadership doesn't have to manage the details of the facility every day. We want someone who can eventually look at Flex Affect and say: "I've got the building. I've got the team. I've got the day-to-day." And then deliver on it.
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
Benefits:
Gym membership Opportunities for advancement Paid training Professional development assistance Application Question(s): How many years of hands-on strength & conditioning or sports-performance coaching experience do you have? Have you personally coached athletes through structured strength, speed, agility or power-development programs? Have you conducted athlete performance assessments or evaluations? Tell us about an operation, team, schedule, or facility you were personally responsible for managing. What did you own?
