Under the direction and supervision of the YMCA Director, and in consultation with the Swim Team Parents Association, the Head Coach will direct, administer, and manage the Raritan Valley YMCA Swim Team and related programs. Direction shall be consistent with guidelines as established in the Association's Physical Education Policy, YMCA Sports Philosophy, and National Rules that govern YMCA sports. The Competitive Swim Team consists of 200-250 swimmers ages 5 to 19. The team also holds events which may be open to non-team members (including spring workouts, summer workouts, team tryouts). The Head Coach is responsible for the hiring, certification, development, and supervision of Coaches and Associate Head Coaches. The Competitive Swim team's focus is to improve the performance of team members in competitive YMCA and USA swim meets, build swimmer confidence in a positive atmosphere, and incorporate YMCA values.

Qualifications:

Prior experience coaching children in competitive environment. Working knowledge of a Competitive Swim Team and experience as a coach or swimmer. Experience in working with volunteers and other professionals. Ability to establish and maintain necessary relationships with coaches and other YMCA staff, team parents, YMCA members, and the general public. Qualifications should include a warm and friendly personality, sensitivity toward the feelings and needs of others, maturity, flexibility, good time management and organizational skills and be able to relate well to, and communicate with, children and adolescents. The individual must have the necessary training and experience to coach swimming. Additionally, coaches must have lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certificates, a valid background check on file with USA Swimming, and also the ability to interpret and display proper values concepts.
