SUMMARY:
The Esports Head Coach is responsible for overseeing and supporting the activities of the Esports Team for LAHS. The Esports team is a Coach led activity open to all students 13 years old and older (8th graders included). The goal of the Esports team is to provide a healthy competitive outlet for gamers while also helping students develop SOFT skills that will help them later on in their professional careers. A complete list of program objectives can be found in the Esports Program Outline. The Head Coach interfaces and coordinates with the Activities Office, LAHS Administration, LAHS Bookkeepers, LAHS IT Department, LAPS Transportation, NMAA, Collegiate Esports Programs, students and parents regularly throughout the school year. Each individual Esport Team has a designated practice/match day that must be coordinated ahead of each upcoming competitive season. Esports takes part in many different competitions (online & in-person), the main one being the NMAA State Competition in the Spring.
Duties include:
Program Management Establishing & maintaining Esports Program as a whole Currently done via Google Drive Assistant Coach Management Monitoring online activity in school sponsored meeting places (Discord, sportsYou, Google Meets, etc.) Monitoring in-person activity at school/club sponsored events Delegating tasks to Assistant Coaches Training new Assistant Coaches in their duties Coordinating onboarding/background check process with LAPS Creating coverage schedule based on availability Club Management Identifying which students qualify as Active Club Members throughout the school year Monitoring online activity in school sponsored meeting places (Discord, sportsYou, Google Meets, etc.) Monitoring in-person activity at school/club sponsored events Outreach to student body to encourage students to join the club Competitive Team Management Holding signups & tryouts for each competitive team Establishing starters/subs & sub-varsity teams based on tryout results Electing Team Captains for each competitive team Ensuring students are academically eligible to compete (Grade Checks) Registering competitive teams on the designated competition platform (PlayVS or Vanta) Establishing Practice schedules & routines for each competitive team Match Day communications with opposing teams Monitoring in-game behavior during matches (good sportsmanship) Monitoring attendance to practices & matches Designating Varsity Letter Recipients at the end of the Spring Scouting Opponent Teams (Captains & other Coaches will assist) Trips Sending Trip Requests to Administration for approval Sending & Collecting Permission Forms to/from students & parents Hotel Booking (coordinating w/ Bookkeepers) Room assignments Driving (when needed) School Suburban Certification (Class + DOT Physical) CPR Training Chaperoning Sending Trip Agenda to students & parents Fundraising Plan & Execute Fundraisers in accordance with school guidelines Procurements Managing Club Funds in coordination with Bookkeepers Utilizing Club funds when needed for equipment & travel Extras Stat Collection for competitive teams Social Media Management Live Streaming Matches Video Creation Hall of Fame Management Discord/sportsYou Management Jerseys College Prep for Seniors (recruiting help)
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to obtain Coaching Badge from LAPS NM State Coaching Certification Background Check Onsite Coverage for WIN (match setup), practices, & matches Ability to obtain Suburban Driver Certification Suburban Driver Class DOT Physical CPR Training
Desired Qualifications:
Experience playing or competing in one or more of the following Esports titles: League of Legends Splatoon 3 Super Smash Bros Ultimate or any iteration NBA 2K Rocket League Hearthstone Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or any iteration Madden Street Fighter 6 or any iteration (or similar titles) Previous experience managing a sports/esports team of any kind Strong Organizational skills highly desired Proficiency in Excel, Word, & Adobe Proficiency in Google Drive/Google Docs
