Job Description:
The Head Field Hockey Coach is responsible for leading the
NCAA D-III
Field Hockey program in compliance with NCAA, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and The College of Wooster policies. Key duties include coaching, scouting, recruiting, instructing, strength training, arranging travel, budget management, equipment tracking, fundraising and alumni engagement. The head coach will also have a teaching assignment in the Physical Education minor. This role supports the mission of the College in its focus on preparing students to become leaders of character and influence in an interdependent global community.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead all aspects of training, conditioning, and competition to ensure competitive excellence in the NCAC and NCAA Division III. Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in collaboration with the Office of Admissions. Oversee program administration, including budgeting, travel, meals, facilities, and equipment procurement. Support fundraising and alumni/parent engagement in partnership with the Office of Advancement. Manage team statistics and collaborate with Athletic Communications to maintain a strong social media presence. Promote student-athlete health, safety, and development by applying current coaching best practices and collaborating with athletic trainers. Build and sustain strong relationships with campus partners, faculty, student affairs, and athletic department colleagues. Actively participate in NCAC Field Hockey governance and conference activities. Engage student-athletes in community service and foster meaningful connections through campus visibility and mentorship. Fulfill additional teaching, committee, and administrative responsibilities as assigned by departmental leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree required. Two to five years related experience highlighting a successful record of coaching and recruiting at the intercollegiate level. Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. The ability to obtain College driver certification is preferred. Community Relations experience. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).

Ability to work collaboratively with others. Expertise in teaching technical field hockey skills. Proficiency in building relationships for fundraising purposes. Strong commitment to a comprehensive strength and conditioning program. Dedication to personal and professional growth. Demonstrated commitment to supporting athletes as students. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety procedural documents. Proficiency in writing reports and professional correspondence. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety regulations. Skilled in solving practical problems and handling diverse situations with limited standardization.
Knowledge:
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Experience with managing multiple projects under pressure while maintaining composure. Flexibility to respond to changing priorities.

Adheres to College, Department of Athletics and Physical Education, NCAC and NCAA policies and regulations. Demonstrates a commitment to the priorities and ideals of The College of Wooster and the Department of Athletics and Physical Education. Must have the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse academic community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially.
Work Environment:
Required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays. Regularly travels in outside weather conditions, is exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and is occasionally exposed to fumes, smoke and toxic or caustic chemicals. Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the coach is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
